Great news for Singapore residents planning to travel to Malaysia! Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail announced that Singaporeans are now exempt from filling out the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC).
The MDAC became mandatory for most foreign travellers entering the country from January 1, 2024. However, frequent travellers, including Singaporeans, can now skip this requirement.
Skipping the form: Who qualifies for Malaysia Digital Arrival Card exemption
In addition to Singapore residents, travel exemptions extend to Malaysia long-term pass holders, individuals with Thai border passes, and those possessing Indonesian Cross-Border passes. Additionally, individuals with Brunei common identification certificates and those benefiting from the Brunei Malaysia Frequent Traveller Facility are also exempt from the digital card requirement.
The implementation of the MDAC is a strategic initiative to enhance immigration services, particularly in response to recent developments such as the visa exemption for Chinese and Indian nationals for 30 days starting from December 1, 2023.

Minister Saifuddin mentioned that individuals entering the country before January 1 will have the flexibility to complete the digital card after arrival due to unawareness. However, starting from the specified date, it will be compulsory to fulfil these formalities before arrival.
“Filling this MDAC is important to ensure that security control is not compromised even though we relax the conditions for the entry of tourists,” the minister added.
