A Huge Air-Conditioned Bike Path Is Coming To Dubai

Never a destination to do anything by halves, a major new project is set to be launched in Dubai. It is an ambitious bike path and pedestrian walkway of more than 90 km in length, all within a lush, green and climate-controlled environment.

More about the upcoming bike path in Dubai

Designed by the architecture studio Urb, The Loop is a vast 93-kilometre urban and sustainable highway. The goal is to connect the emirate’s three million plus residents with healthy modes of transportation in an equally healthy environment. This covered space for cyclists and pedestrians also promises year-round air-conditioning.

This ambitious project is part of the initiative to make Dubai a 20-minute city, with the aim of making walking and cycling the two main modes of daily travel for over 80% of all residents by 2040.

Much more than a simple bike path, The Loop will be composed of green spaces and will offer a wide range of services to users. No matter what the weather conditions are outside, it will always be a great place to go to relax or to get around.

As well as accommodating soft modes of transport, with no CO2 emissions, The Loop will be powered 100% by renewable energy. Recycled water will be used to irrigate all the vegetation planted along the entire route, as well as for the vertical farms that the project will house.

Once up and running, Urb says that The Loop will become the first active mobility infrastructure of its kind anywhere in the world.
